Tamara English’s work explores the experience of the presence of the divine in life, referencing the visual vocabulary of elements of the natural world as a way to connect with individual understanding of the sacred, and serving as a catalyst to make our ideals such as peace, harmony and mercy real in the world. Her oil paintings reveal the atmosphere of interior space, imagining the inner realms as landscapes that one might move through with conscious intent discovering the numinous beyond names or traditions. The flora and fauna of the natural world inhabit these landscapes unseen in the physical world yet connected to what we see, hear and touch in life. The paintings themselves invite quiet contemplation, and serve to create an atmosphere of rejuvenation and hope. English’s oil paintings have been exhibited extensively in the US and abroad, including at the New Orleans Museum of Art, The Lesher Art Center in the Bay Area, and the Seattle Art Museum. English lives and works in Portland, Oregon.
